The 7 things you need as an artist to be successful.
1. Quality Of Music
The minute you decide you want to create music and put it out to the world, you are automatically competing with the sound quality from mainstream artists and independent artists. So you Must bring your A game. Not only that, important people in the music business will run into your music, so I’m sure you wouldn’t want them hearing anything that sounds bad. First time listeners are like Gold. Don’t lose them!
2. Website
Some may say they don’t need a website because they have Facebook or BandCamp. Wrong! You don’t own Facebook or BandCamp but you do own your Website. It will definitely help you stand out plus you have total control of it. No limitations. Think about it. When your audience finally recognizes your quality sound and want to go look for you, it’s really good for you when they visit your Website. I say this because it leads them away from the competition that are also on Facebook or BandCamp.
3. Email List
We all have some sort of understanding that on social media, not every one that follows you sees your posts. An Email List is one of the most effective ways to engage with your audience. Remember No Spamming. It’s about letting them know about the things that are relevant. Maybe, giving them the privilege to listen to your unreleased music, discounts on products or early release date spoilers. I mean, sky’s the limit.
4. Social Media
Well that’s self explanatory. That would be your Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and etc. You Need to be Present on Social Media. (On A Daily Basis) stay active. Make sure you link your Website and Streaming Services to your Social Media.
5. Music On The Platforms
That would be Spotify, ITunes, Amazon Music, and etc. This is where consumers find their music. So make sure your music is on there. The best way to that is to get with companies like CD Baby, Distrokid, Tunecore and etc. These companies will help you get your music on those platforms worldwide.
6. Experienced Team
Like I said before, you can’t do this alone. Associate with people that can get dirty and that are not afraid to compete with the mainstream teams that are helping there artist out. Yes, they have a record label backing. That just means you have to work twice as hard. Remember, you are the artist so you have to make sure you do your part and create that Good Quality content. Your team is there to organize 1 thru 5 altogether so you can get it out there to the world. People like CD Baby, they are your Team. If you have a manager or management, they are your Team. if you have an assistant, they are also part of your Team. Remember an Experienced Team is Important.
7. Work Ethic
Now that’s one thing no one can really teach. It’s all up to you. How much work are you willing to put in. Anything else is teachable whether it’s vocal training, writing better songs, and making sure your website is good. But it can only be taught to artists that have great Work Ethic. You really have to understand that this is a Business. Believe it or not, a lot of talented people are getting out worked by less qualified people. I don’t think you want that to happen to you. I know I don’t want that to happen to you. Thank you for your time.
